NEWS RELEASE

ST. LOUIS AUTO SHOW

DISPLAY BY HORSELESS CARRIAGE CLUB OF MISSOURI

A CENTURY OF EXTREMES AT THE AUTO SHOW

EXTREMES! is the theme for a special century-spanning display at the 2010 St. Louis Auto Show.

Among the six collector cars are a memorable 1910 Cadillac far removed from the styling of the four-wheeled, option-loaded 1960 Cadillac luxury yacht displayed nearby.  “The comparison allows visitors to see how Cadillac and other luxury cars have progressed since the early days of motoring,” says Gerald Perschbacher, display coordinator for the Horseless Carriage Club of Missouri.  “Fifty years separates the 1910 from the 1960 Cadillac, and another 50 years brings us to the present.  It’s unusual when two fifty-year increments can be examined at the same event!”

Two Fords show forty years of EXTREMES!  One is a 1923 Model T Huckster with hand-made wooden body.  The other is a 1963 Galaxie 500XL once owned by Larry Bird, #33 for the Boston Celtics.  Differences in height, length, horsepower, and styling will be evident.

Two more cars round out EXTREMES!:  a 1917 Chevrolet touring car and a 1956 Jaguar Model XK 140MC.  “What makes the Chevrolet sporty is its V-8 engine.  Most people don’t realize that Chevrolet used a V-8 on certain models from 1917 into 1919.  This is one of those rare examples,” explains Larry Hassel, club president.  “The Jaguar shows the mighty advancement of sporty motoring nearly fifty years later.”

Ralph Atkinson, volunteer coordinator, says car owners and other members of the Horseless Carriage Club of Missouri will be on hand to talk with visitors about the virtues of these rare cars.
