2008 Brass & Nickel Show

Last years ('08) Brass & Nickel Cars Attracted Hundreds to the MOT
Photos and story by Gerald Perschbacher

Forty-one cars, all made in 1931 and prior, were displayed at the Museum of Transportation on Oct. 5, 2008. it was the second annual Brass & Nickel Car Show by the HCCM.

The registered cars were double the number of the first year, and more than 400 people came to see the display. The impact was very positive as the "old timer" cars lined up in the lower parking lot of the museum. It was as though the area had entered a time warp.

The event had been postponed due to the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ike, which dumped 4 1/2 inches of rain on St. Louis in a two-hour period on the day of the scheduled show. An alternate day was quickly selected.

Adjacent to the HCCM show was a display of Cadillacs, courtesy of the Cadillac La Salle Club based in our area. That club had its previous display date rained out, also.

Individuals involved in operating this non-trophy meet included Lou and Jackie Allen, Laren and Joyce Langguth, John Porbeck, and a handful of others. The Gateway Antique Phonograph Society set up a display of vintage spring-wound phonographs and organettes, some of which were a century old. The music matched the era of the automobiles on display.
